Yadkin Civic Club Scholarship

Available to two eligible graduating seniors—one from Forbush High School and one from Starmount High School. The award prioritizes candidates with demonstrated financial need and a strong history of outstanding voluntary service, with preference given to active members of the Junior Civic Club who have shown significant dedication to the club and to considerable community service outside the organization.

Live Like Norah Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship provides $1,000 per year and is renewable for up to four years with consistent enrollment, totaling $4,000 to support deserving students from Forbush and Starmount High Schools who plan to attend either a two-year or four-year institution. Recipients are chosen for their proven academic excellence, active involvement in school athletics and clubs, faith-based example of service and commitment to living out values of service and positivity —qualities that reflect Norah’s legacy. Preference may be given to applicants who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Jewell W. Welborn Cosmetology Scholarship

Must be an adult student (graduated high school in 2024 or earlier) and a resident of Yadkin County enrolled in a cosmetology degree or credential program, and demonstrate financial need.

Alpha and Omega Corn Maze Scholarship

Up to $2,500 for a student attending a 4-year college or $1,250 for a student attending a 2-year college. Scholarship awards are sent directly to the student’s academic institution and may be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and other direct expenses at the institution only. Eligible candidates must ​have worked at Alpha and Omega Corn Maze for a total of 50 hours or more within a season in one of the last three seasons. Priority is given to students who are ​working towards a degree or credential in the field of agriculture.

Bonnie M. Chappell Memorial Scholarship

Eligible candidates must be Yadkin County residents pursuing a nursing degree or credential from a community college or 4-year institution. Eligible applicants must have financial needs and have overcome adversity and/or life challenges. Preference will be given to those not having the benefit of being raised by biological parents or raised by a single parent. Students must have earned the minimum grades required for nursing program enrollment. A completed FAFSA is not required but may help determine financial need. Community and volunteer service may be considered but is not required, especially where life circumstances have prevented community participation and service. Students will be paired with a mentor(s) from the Compassion Care Center. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, books, fees, technology needs, supplies, or other direct course-related expenses if awarded. The funds are sent directly to the student's account at their college and cannot be used for rent, gas, or other personal expenses.

Marvin's Garage Doors Scholarship in honor of Marvin Brown

Two scholarships are available for $1,000 each for graduating high school students from Forbush High School and Starmount High School seeking a degree or certificate related to a career in electronics, welding, or construction. In addition to entering these fields, the student may be enrolled either full-time or part-time and must demonstrate financial need, motivation toward his/her career, and good character (trustworthy, respectful, fair, caring, and serves to make better his/her home, school, and community).

The Wayne C. Matthews Continuing Education Award

For an adult student (graduated from high school in the class of 2024 or before). Applicant must be a resident of or employed in Yadkin County and attend Surry Community College, full-time or part-time in a credential-producing program leading to an in-demand occupation. Preference is given to applicants enrolled or planning to attend the Yadkin Campus during their degree/certification program. If awarded, scholarship funds may be used for tuition, books, fees, technology needs, supplies, or other direct course-related expenses.
