Why Work With Us

Overview

Philanthropy is personal.

Each individual has a special sweet spot of care and concern in the community that inspires charitable giving to make a lasting difference. Our giving options and services are tailored to your sweet spot – the needs, values, and vision for what you hope your giving will accomplish. And together, we can help make your philanthropic ideas and dreams a reality now and/or in the future….and have fun along the way!

Importantly, the Shallow Ford Foundation is located right here. Our professional staff are responsive, knowledgeable, and focused on all aspects of community life. We are experienced in grant making and scholarship programs, as well as coordinating with others in accomplishing special initiatives.

When you create a charitable fund at the Shallow Ford Foundation, you specify its charitable purpose and receive maximum tax advantages allowed by law. The name of your fund can be your name, the name of a loved one, or another name that allows you to be anonymous in your giving.

There are many benefits of working with the Shallow Ford Foundation:

We offer tax-wise giving options. You can establish a fund with gifts of cash, appreciated stock, real estate, life insurance and other assets and receive immediate tax benefits.

We offer flexibility in your giving. Your fund can focus on specific organizations or geography; specific missions such as human services, health, animal welfare, education, the environment, or arts; or very general philanthropic interests depending on what is most important to you.

We know local nonprofits and community needs. Our staff and board team is familiar with the nonprofit organizations and the needs in our community and can provide as much (or as little) guidance as you like in helping your philanthropy make the biggest difference.

We honor and protect your intentions. Establishing a fund at Shallow Ford Foundation includes an agreement articulating your goals and intentions. We consider it a privilege and honor to make sure that donor intent is always written and preserved, both now and in the future.

We offer cost-effectiveness. Because we can pool numerous funds, you benefit from economies of scale for investment and administration. Our investments are managed by leading financial institutions and an investment committee including volunteers selected for their financial expertise.

Convenience. Call or e-mail us about any aspect of charitable giving. We're happy to answer your questions. We're also available to meet with you whenever and wherever most convenient.

Since attending Thad’s funeral, it’s been a GOD thing. I definitely have been guided in my thinking, setting up a fund, and my remarks about the fund. The Burkel Family Foundation Fund is not a donation. If I give $100.00 to the Food Bank, that’s a donation. The fund is an asset just like my savings account. It’s a living, breathing extension of who I am, and after I’m gone it will be a living breathing extension of who I was — a legacy in its truest form.
— Ken Burkel of the Burkel Family Foundation Fund
“We (Debrah and I) are very excited about this program [Shore Scholars Program]. This is just what our father hoped for and we believe this aligns perfectly with his desire to create a program that will benefit future generations. The Foundation staff have done a superb job listening and implementing our ideas to make our fathers quiet intentions a reality.”
— Debrah S. Blase and Karen S. Hopper, daughters of Wayne A. Shore of the Wayne A. Shore Endowment Fund
“On behalf of Women Who Care, I wanted to thank you for all your efforts… You have consistently involved us, and we greatly appreciate it. You have gone out of your way multiple times and it has been a pleasure working with you.”
— Liz Weide, President, Women Who Care for Community (Agency Fund Partner)
